How Many Pairs?
Socks are relatively small things and they are fast becoming my go-to project when I'm struggling to find my next craft project.
I love the different yarns available and construction methods. Top down is my favoured approach - cuff, leg, heel flap, heel turn, gusset, foot, toe - with a kitchener stitch finish and always on 4 double pointed needles!
This year has produced seven pairs; all knitted in 4ply yarns on 2.25mm DPNs.
Winter Walks Socks - these are for a dear friend on her lockdown daily walks in the Staffordshire countryside.
A fairisle style yarn from Opal Bedtime Stories series, 9895 Grandma Lily and the Magic Broom.
The pattern is a simple K3 P1 rib on the leg and top of the foot with a 1x1 rib on the turnover cuff.
Joyful Socks - a bright and cheerful socks for a friend's daily dog walks in the Shropshire landscape.
A striped sock yarn, another from Opal Bedtime Stories, 9896 Turtle Called Whirlwind.
I used same pattern as Winter Walks Socks.
Hiking Boot Socks - for my niece's new hiking boots as she walks the hills around Edinburgh.
Opal True Love series this time, in 9861 Crochet Hero. A lovely fairisle style design in a fairly subtle colourway.
Another basic sock in 3x1 rib with a turnover cuff.
Three pairs for me because I love my made to measure socks.
Pondering Our Options Socks - a project to help ease the anxiety of house hunting during this challenging winter.
Knitted in Rico Superba Bamboo Superwash 023 Purple Blue Mix. A subtle shaded yarn to showcase a cable pattern.
The pattern is a free download from Love Crafts called Essential Cable Socks.
Not So Subtle Socks - this is a bright, sparkling and cheery yarn mixed with a plain one for cuff, heel and toe.
The yarns are WYS Signature 4ply 905 Fairy Lights and Coop Knits Socks Yeah! 117 Almandine. The yarns compliment each other and make a very festive pair of socks.
Just a 2x2 cuff and stocking stitch leg and foot - no need for any more as the yarn provides all the interest.
Which Socks? - I loved knitting the Pondering Our Options socks so much I used the same pattern again with different yarn.
Opal Ocean series in 9977 Glittering Light. This yarn has a greenish tinge to it which hasn't photographed well - suffice it to say it is evocative of sunshine on a calm sea.
The pattern is a free download from Love Crafts called Essential Cable Socks.
